Why You’ll Love This Pineapple Smoothie With Yogurt Recipe

  • Easy Smoothie for Busy Mornings. Because who has time to wash, peel, core, and cut eleventy-billion different fruits and veggies for a Breakfast Smoothie on a work day? No thank you! Use a bag of frozen pineapple and all you have to do is peel and cut half a banana for this pineapple smoothie recipe.
  • Creamy Like a Milkshake. Banana and Greek yogurt pair up to make our pineapple smoothie rich and creamy, while the frozen pineapple makes it frosty without thinning it out with ice. It’s basically a milkshake a respectable adult can totally enjoy for breakfast.
  • A Smoothie for Smoothie Skeptics. Not everyone is a Green Smoothie person. If the very thought of a handful of kale or spinach in your smoothie makes you shudder, this pineapple smoothie will be more your speed. (So will this Mango Smoothie.)

How to Make a Pineapple Smoothie

The Ingredients

  • Frozen Pineapple Pieces. You can buy fresh pineapple and freeze it yourself, or just pick up a bag of frozen pineapple from the grocery store to keep it super easy.
  • Ripe Banana. No need to freeze it first since you’re starting with frozen pineapple.
  • Nonfat Greek Yogurt. You can use plain or vanilla. For a vegan pineapple smoothie, swap in your favorite plant-based vanilla yogurt.
  • Pure Vanilla Extract. This is only necessary if you’re using plain yogurt. Vanilla is a universal flavor enhancer, and it also amps up the milkshake vibes in this smoothie.
  • Honey. You can omit this if you’re using vanilla yogurt since that’s already sweetened or use agave, maple syrup, or your sweener of choice.
  • Unsweetened Almond Milk. Or any plant or dairy milk you keep on hand.

Recipe Variations

  • Green Pineapple Smoothie. Add a handful of kale or spinach to your smoothie, or make this Kale Pineapple Smoothie.
  • Pineapple Smoothie Without Banana. Omit the banana and add another 1/2 cup of yogurt.
  • Pineapple Protein Smoothie. Add a scoop of unflavored or vanilla protein powder. Hemp hearts and chia seeds will up the protein even further.
  • Pineapple Orange Smoothie. Use orange juice instead of milk.
  • Pineapple Coconut Smoothie. Swap the milk for lite coconut milk.
  • Pineapple and Mango Smoothie. Substitute half of the pineapple for frozen mango.
  • Pineapple Strawberry Smoothie. Substitute half of the pineapple for frozen strawberries.

Storage Tips

  • To Store. Store any leftover pineapple smoothie in an airtight glass or jar for up to 1 day. Shake or stir, then enjoy.
  • To Freeze. Freeze leftovers in an airtight, freezer-safe storage container or freezer bag for up to 3 months. Let thaw overnight in the refrigerator before serving.

What to Serve with Pineapple Smoothies

  • Muffins. Keep Healthy Banana Muffins or Buttermilk Blueberry Muffins on hand in the freezer and enjoy them with your smoothie for a grab-and-go breakfast.
  • Oatmeal. For a more filling but equally easy option, try Overnight Slow Cooker Steel Cut Oats or Protein Overnight Oats.
  • Eggs. Pair your sweet smoothie with a savory French Omelette or Egg Muffins.

Recipe Tips and Tricks

  • Make It Less Banana-y. The banana isn’t just for banana flavor; it’s also for sweetness and a creamy consistency. If you’re not a banana fan, you can substitute an unripe banana and use extra honey for sweetness. Unripe bananas have a very mild flavor, but they’ll still give your pineapple smoothie that rich, velvety texture.
  • Add the Liquids First. Especially if you don’t have a high-powered blender, adding the liquids first can help keep your blender from struggling. Liquids at the bottom will create a vortex that sucks the solid ingredients towards the blade.
  • Give It a Stir Before Pouring. Sometimes you don’t realize your smoothie isn’t smooth until you pour it into your glass. To keep this from happening, stir the smoothie in the blender to look for unblended fruit before pouring it.

  • Blend until smooth. Depending upon the size and power of your blender, you may need to stop it and scrape down the pitcher a couple of times. If the mixture is too thick to blend, splash in a little more almond milk, stir to move the contents of the blender around, and blend again. Taste and add additional honey if you would like the smoothie sweeter. Pour into a glass and enjoy!
