A short one today but I’ve been a fan of Specialty in both its former and current incarnations and wanted to highlight its charms. From a previous leafy paradise it’s now a more paired back affair, concrete floor and light pine wood accents. Tables form a L shape around the barista station with the prime tables looking out across Friar Lane and Maid Marian Way. Having dabbled with various food offerings they seem to have settled on a partnership with Lilac Eatery.

The menu is short but appealing and whilst I strongly considered the Shakshuka the Turkish Eggs (£11) had my name on them. The flat white I enjoyed was also excellent, it might be my favourite coffee in the city. I prefer a fruity style, the roast not too dark and for that Specialty always seems to hit my sweet spot.

I really enjoyed the aesthetic of my dish. The brilliant white backdrop of yogurt providing a beautiful contrast with the chilli and herbs. The eggs were perfectly cooked, and you can’t fault the classic combination of heat against the cooling yogurt. The pop of dill a bonus hit of flavour. The bread was excellent (I think it was Tough Mary’s sourdough) and deftly toasted. Over toasted sough dough can ruin a breakfast. Whilst it feels a smidge expensive I don’t find there is much quality brunch competition around. At the moment this is the top of my list.
