The Little Things Newsletter #508 – Life, laughter, and lots of great food!

Welcome to the weekend, my friends! Happy Valentine’s Day!! Today’s my 28th wedding anniversary – yes, we were those crazy kids who chose to get married on Valentine’s day. So, we’re looking forward to celebrating in style with a cozy dinner at home and something fabulously chocolate (these Chocolate Lava Cakes topped with Chocolate Ice Cream!) for dessert tonight. We’ve learned never to fight the crowds on our actual anniversary night, so we celebrate by going out early in the week and staying in on Valentine’s day.

ON THE BLOGS THIS WEEK: From the very first bite, these Buttered Steak Bites and Mushrooms became an instant favorite for my whole family. This is the most tender steak you can imagine and my whole family goes nuts for it.

With crisp, deeply browned edges and soft and fluffy insides, these Roasted Red Potatoes have been a regular feature on our meal plan for the past fifteen years. And, with good reason, too! They’re almost too easy for how good they are. No babysitting required.

Perfect for steak dipping and burger topping, this Homemade Steak Sauce is tangy, barely sweetened, and just a little bit smoky. It only takes me a few minutes to combine everything, and then it simmers together. This sauce combines the best parts of A-1 and Heinz 57 flavors, from the comfort of your own home.

You know that moment when you’re halfway through winter and your body just starts begging for something fresh, bright, and alive? Yeah, that’s where this Winter Salad with cabbage and Brussels sprouts comes in – and I’ll be making it again this weekend!

Filled with creamy oats, sweet bananas, berries, a hint of brown sugar, and spices, this Slow Cooker Oatmeal is a breakfast that my whole family enjoys. Best of all, this crave-worthy oatmeal can be made in just one hour without any stirring at all!

Fluffy potatoes, melted cheese and butter, crispy bacon, and fresh green onions are mashed together and baked to bubbly perfection in this Loaded Baked Potato Dip. Take the classic baked potato and transform it into a portable party classic? I’m already there!

Creamy, nutty, and just a little bit salty, these tempting Mini Cheese Balls are a guaranteed hit. Even after making them so many times, I still can’t decide what’s better. The irresistible taste or the ease of making them. Either way, you’ll find yourself making them often!

Rich, decadent chocolate is on full display in this easy to make, Old Fashioned Chocolate Cobbler. It is a chocolate lover’s dream!

My FAVORITE THING this week is this PackIt Freezable Bag. I have a few different styles of this bag and this one is my favorite. I’ve been using it for over ten years now. I use it when traveling or anytime when I know I’ll be out of the house all day and want to take some snacks with me, because I trust the food will stay super cold. My son takes these bags to school every day too. They are a whole different world from lunch bags with separate ice packs.

What I’m WATCHING: The Wild Robot. This is a must watch movie, friends. My college kids and I watched it this week and the storyline is just charming. Roz, the robot, gets stranded on a wild island and winds up befriending all the wild animals while learning how to survive. And the animation here? It is breathtaking at times. I can’t tell you how many times I found myself just jaw dropped watching this one. It’s a work of art.

“Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 NIV

Wishing you a beautiful week filled with little things that make you smile!
